Christmas is the celebration of the coming of our Creator to dwell among us as the God-man. To think, that the One who spoke the universe into existence humbled Himself by donning a human body for 33 years and then humbled Himself again by accepting, at the hands of His creation, the most cruel form of death they could invent: crucifixion. Consider the irony
To think, that He did this because of His great love for us. This is beyond comprehension. Who else but God would have gone to such lengths to restore sinful, rebellious, enemies of everything good to fellowship with Himself? We who deserve only His wrath and judgment receiving His mercy instead! He could have destroyed everything and everyone (like He did with Noah) and started all over again. But even after Noah, we (mankind) still reject God's authority.
So why would God do this? Why would Christ come to earth? Why would He be willing to give up His life on a Roman cross?
First, He came to get us out of hell and into heaven. He came to pay the penalty which we owed, but could not pay. That penalty required the death of One who had never sinned to pay the debt of those who had.
Second, He came to get Him (Christ) out of heaven and into us. This required Him to come back from the dead on the third day for a dead man doesn’t do anything. But Christ isn’t dead, He is alive again and He sends His Spirit to live within His followers to teach them how to live.
Many don’t want what Christ offers. They think they don’t need it or are trying some other system.
Some see they need forgiveness of their sins, but don’t want Him telling them how to live. They try to clean up their lives on their own.
Few see their need of forgiveness and also see their need of a change of boss within: from self control to Christ control.
Which one are you?
Christ’s dual offer is available to all – just ask.
Rom 6:23 The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Ecc 8:8 It is appointed unto man once to die, and after that comes the judgment.
I Jn 5:10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
