Who we are: the Stovers

Since this is not your typical anonymous website but rather a very personal one, you will need to know who we are in order to follow the articles. To that end, I introduce to you the Stovers.

Craig - lovingly known as Dad

Craig 2005

Craig 2005

Craig grew up on a dairy farm in central Kansas, learning to work hard and keep the farm running. Throughout life he has been greatly interested in understanding how things work and how to keep them that way. As a father he is the family breadwinner and master tradesman from whom the children learn their skills. Craig is a man with a servant's heart and a love for His Lord. He enjoys variety and trying new things. He likes guns, planes, motorcycles and big machines.

Cheryl - affectionately referred to as Mom

Cheryl 2005

Cheryl 2005

Cheryl grew up in a suburban town in coastal New England. Both her 'to do' lists and her practical bent stand her in good stead as an organized and efficient mother and wife. She has good people skills and is very transparent in her relationships. Her chief objective in life is supporting Craig in a delegatory role; keeping home, school and businesses running and properly staffed. The strong visionary qualities and deep love for the Lord and His people which characterize her life endear her to the people with whom she works. Cheryl likes color, wind chimes, wood and art.

Jeremiah (23)

Jeremiah 2005

Jeremiah 2005

Jeremiah was born in North Dakota but grew up in the woods of New England. He is a computer geek, maintaining both hardware and software for our growing family of computers. He loves a challenge, especially if it is research related. Besides fulltime work as a Geek he also labors full time in his own growing business. Jeremiah is our law, history and theology buff with a genuine interest in God's presuppositional truths. With his good communication skills and great sense of humor he is a fun person to be around. Books, photography, sketching and science/technology are all interests of his.

Hannah (21)

Hannah 2005

Hannah 2005

Hannah shares her history with Jeremiah in North Dakota and later in New England and is also his best friend. As the eldest daughter she is the loving mama of this household, filling in the many gaps left by Mom's busy schedule, especially the patient training of skills and the oversight of young workers. A spirit of meekness characterizes Hannah's life which springs from a deep, intimate relationship with her Lord. Spiritual and historical reading interests her greatly and she reads avidly on those topics. She finds pleasure in books, sewing, baking and variety.

Nathanael (20)

Nathanael 2005

Nathanael 2005

Nathanael also shares Jeremiah's history and is a constant challenge to and sharpener of him. He is a strong man with an abiding interest in numbers - especially their practical application. When it comes to planning he is methodical with consistent follow through. His deep love for the Lord is expressed in the gentleness and kindness that characterize his life. In a group he is an excellent support member, and is also a deep thinker. He enjoys history, economics, investing and the theory behind the sciences. Camping, shooting, strategy and humor are interests of his.

Zechariah (16)

Zechariah grew up as his father's shadow - a handy fix-it man. Being a personable young man he quickly puts people at ease. He is a highly skilled machine operator with an uncanny ability to put things right. Zechariah is a fun-loving outdoorsman with a love for Christ and His creation. There is rarely a time when his hands are idle and his smile is always present. He is cultivating skills in woodworking. I hear he is a great story teller, too. He likes antique tools, old books, marksmanship, and mechanical things.

Caleb is a little man with a treasure in his pocket. It gives him great delight to give gifts to others. He is a born leader with a desire to delegate responsibilities. Nothing escapes his notice and he is usually very cheerful. As of yet, he has not bowed the knee to Christ, though he loves the Lord and enjoys singing His praises. He is a real story teller - true and otherwise, and he likes tools, machines, animals, and hugs.

This overview would not be complete without an introduction to our pets.

Navy (4)

Navy

Navy

Navy was trained through Guiding Eyes for the Blind as a guide dog, but an unfortunate incident during puppy-hood shattered his confidence making him unfit for the task. Navy joined our family two years ago, where, under the tutelage of Sarah and Zechariah, he has regained much of his confidence. He is well disciplined both in basic obedience and good house manners and responds well to a whistle (thanks to Bill who lovingly reclaimed him after his accident). He is still somewhat reserved and not overly affectionate but his quiet, gentle manners make him a good dog for our family. Navy loves eating, swimming, sleeping, and chasing sticks.

Bibsy (10)

Bibsy

Bibsy

Bibsy was born the year our new house was built. Since we had little time to spare from construction work she grew up wild and we had to tame her the best we could as a six month old kitten. Even still she is reserved and cautious, but as she grows older she becomes more and more affectionate towards the people who understand her. Her name refers to the little white patch under her chin; a trademark she passes down to all her kittens. Over the years she has reared numerous litters, the first few being entirely wild and quite a challenge to catch and gentle. She now allows us to handle and enjoy her babies. She spends her time outside hunting and sitting in the sun and does not appreciate anything too civilized.

Magermasabib (3)

Magar-masabib

Magar-masabib

Mager is Bibsy's daughter. The year she and her late brother were kittens we were reading "The Hiding Place" and the children decided to name her brother Maher-shallal-hashbaz (Hashbaz for short) after the Ten Boom's cat. The name means "swift to the booty, speedy to the prey" and we thought it appropriate to name his sister something similar. Mager-masabib means "terror on every side". Good hunters we hoped. Mager has faithfully mothered four litters of kittens, the last batch being this November making two litters for the year! She is prejudiced against all strange cats but she loves everyone in the family and especially enjoys slipping inside whenever she gets a chance.
